According to the Jordan Island Trust the "island was sold by Harold Wilson Hammond to Thomas B. and Nelly K. Sweeney -- April 11, 1933. Thomas Sweeney , "Joe" as he was known by his Grandchildren lived in Washington, DC and spent his summers in Bar Harbor,Maine at 110 West Street. He was a Member of the Bar Harbor Club and the Pot &Kettle Club and was an author of several books and was an avid writer of poetry."
